A review of the University of Phoenix Online Nursing Degree

Online Nursing Degree Articles : A review of the University of Phoenix Online Nursing Degree by mansi gupta

The University of Phoenix Online started as a traditional university in 1976 and was one of the first to go online in 1989. It is currently the leading online university, with tens of thousands of students from countries around the world. This has made this school one of the most popular of its kind anywhere in the world. Their flexible schedule and commitment to excellence shines through as they churn out more graduates than any other school in their class every year.

One hundred percent online. Lectures and assignments can be downloaded into your home computer through the use of special Internet-access software. There are no live lectures to facilitate comprehensive access for everybody. A forum grants the students the chance to interact with each other and ask questions. A full line of research services and online libraries are available to the student. Contact between instructor/advisor and student are handled through email.

After a one-time application fee of $110, the University of Phoenix works as any other institution, charging students by the credit hour. Currently, prices are $460/$570/$645 for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral credit hours, respectively.

There are other incidental charges, such as late-payment and graduation-audit fees, and you should ask for a detailed breakdown before enrolling.

Low-cost financing and financial aid is available and you can consult an admissions counselor about eligibility. Payments are broken down as per course rather than per semester, which makes them more affordable and easier to budget for.

According to an article published in The Chronicle of Higher Education, the average Phoenix student is 34 years old and female. The average tuition is just under $30,750 for an undergraduate degree. Sixty six percent of enrolled students earn the degree they signed up for. Fifty percent of students receive some kind of grant or financial aid.

A degree can be completed in as little as two years, but students can take up to five. If credits are transferred into the program at the time of enrolling, time can be considerably reduced. Other way of earning credits is through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).

All instructors hold a minimum of a master's degree and are successful professionals in their fields. The faculty includes hundreds of CEOs, business owners, executives, and experts in all related disciplines.

Independent study requires discipline and creativity, plus the ability to communicate efficiently. Beyond that, high-quality online universities do not differ much from traditional ones and offer the benefit of flexibility, fundamental to today's busy professionals.

There is one matter that requires some thought. You cannot complete your degree through University of Phoenix online. All of the classroom and book work will be complete, but in order to earn the degree you will need to transfer to a traditional university program for the clinicals which must take place in a medical setting and have you in person and onsite.

Online Nursing Degree Articles : How An Online Nursing Class Works by mansi gupta

Online nursing classes are not all that different than the standard type of school with a few exceptions. There are several ways in which you can study nursing online and each of the schools that offer online course studies do things a little different. There is no one right or wrong answer when it comes to how an online class works. This is what makes the online schools so great as they can offer so much more in a shorter amount of time than the traditional schools can. The online schools are built around the needs of the students especially those who have certain time constraints like holding down a full time job on top of going to school. This makes them so popular that more and more schools each year are turning to online course studies to make sure that they are offering their students only the best in high level education for the next years to come.

For the most part, a student that is involved in an online nursing class will spend a certain number of hours in class room study just like a traditional school. Some of the schools offer classes through teleconferencing and other methods to make it as trouble free as possible. This allows the students to be in a virtual class room as the teacher lectures on different subjects. The students then have the option to pose questions over the internet connection to the classroom via the computer. The teacher than answers the questions either out loud or through an email selection that is set up for each student and teacher.

Some schools are geared more towards the independent studies of the students believing that this will earn them more knowledge if they do it themselves. These schools do offer communication with the professors over a secure internet connection to help with any issues that the student may have. These schools believe that this is the best and most effective way to handle the learning process and to help keep the costs down. With this system, most of the students receive their assignments via email and are required to return them via the same method in a certain amount of time.

Most of the courses also require books much like the traditional schools do. It is not prudent to try and offer every bit of material over the internet. This can cause a lot of problems among the students and teachers who often times prefer to garner the knowledge with traditional text books as well as online materials.

Taking a page from the traditional courses, teachers also require that all homework assignments be turned in by the specified time. This will help to ensure that the student did the work and not just forgot about it in the midst of all the other life situations that the student may be having.

Of course, before your degree is complete you will need to transfer to a land campus to take part in clinicals. This part of the degree takes place in person and is a requirement to earn a degree in nursing.

Check with the school that you desire to attend to determine how they handle online study in the classroom environment

The RN to BSN Online Bachelors Degree in Nursing Explained

Online Nursing Degree Articles : The RN to BSN Online Bachelors Degree in Nursing Explained by mansi gupta

The RN to BSN online bachelor's degree in nursing is an educational program for a registered nurse with a diploma or an associate's degree in nursing, who wants to earn a baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN).

Earning an RN-to-BSN online is the best possible option for nurses who work full time and have family responsibilities. For it offers these students the freedom to customize the program courses to suit their needs.

However, you should find out if the RN to BSN online degree program you're enrolled in is self-paced, or structured like that of a traditional class, where there is a designated start date.

What does a Bachelor Of Science Nursing (BSN) degree entail? Most colleges and universities offer this course as a four to five year program. However, while the program trains nurses for hospital and other health care settings, on the main, it prepares the student to assume leadership positions in the health care industry.

Although each online college and university has different courses in their programs, here are the basic prerequisites you'll need for acceptance into an accredited online BSN program.

* A graduate of a diploma or associate degree in nursing from an accredited NLN (National League of Nursing) school
* Have completed 60 semester hours of prerequisite course work with a passing grade
* Character references from reliable sources i.e. teachers, and supervisors at work

How does the student attend classes?

* In general, the student logs on to the school's website, with a given password.
* Then checks the latest posted lecture materials for the subject matter.
* For questions or comments, the student has access to a discussion or bulletin board.
* There will be times that the instructor will schedule a one on one chat session or group session. * The student is given a deadline for submitting the work and this is generally emailed to the instructor.

As for your clinical experiences, the general arrangement would be to have your practicum done at the city you live in, with guidance from your advisor.

The online school will then arrange a Contract of Association between them and the health care center or clinic in your community. A preceptor is then assigned to supervise your practicum. Here's where your work connections will be of most help. You don't have to identify possible healthcare centers or clinics, and ask to work with them, instead you can perform the required clinical experiences right where you work!

It is certainly understandable if you hesitate about taking the plunge to take the RN to BSN online program, especially if you've been out of school for a long time. Nevertheless, think of the benefits, career advancement, more participation on the health care aspects in your organization, and most importantly - the better salary!

However, if you make a wise and informed choice then you are half way to your goal. Bear in mind that no matter which online school you choose you will still need to take part in clinicals which require 'in person' teaching to complete your degree. So before you have earned the degree you will need to transfer to a land campus school.

1. First and foremost check out the fees that the online nursing charges for their courses. This is probably the most important part of choosing an online nursing school. It is the common practice of all reputable online nursing schools to be up-front with their fees. They realize it is important to new students to know how much they will be paying for the course. This will help to build trust in the school as they put fourth the effort to respect their students by offering their fees in an honest manner.

2. You will need to check out the course requirements before signing up for anything. Each school has different requirements that must be met before entering their program. These may include a high school diploma, previous nursing courses, or specific course studies from other schools. All of these requirements are easily located in the prerequisite area of the course description.

3. Time available is very important when choosing an online nursing program. You will need to check and make sure that you have the minimum amount of time that is required by the school to dedicate to class and course type studies. Most of the schools that offer online programs operate on the same premise of standard schools and require that students complete a minimum number of hours in class room study to be eligible to graduate. All of the time that is required will be listed in the course description during the review process.

4. Degrees offered is another area where one should put fourth some effort in research. If the online program does not offer the degree that you need to get the job you want then it is useless to you as a school. Through most of the online nursing schools you can choose the type of degree that you wish to obtain and enter the course of study as set down by those guidelines.

5. Finally you should determine if the school you are looking at fits the individual needs that you have. If a school does not fit the most basic needs than it will not be of much worth to you as a student. If you have special needs or require an aggressive course study you should check with the online schools advisor to ensure that they can accommodate such a need or desire.

Who Can Apply for Online Nursing Degrees?

Online Nursing Degree Articles : Who Can Apply for Online Nursing Degrees? by Ignacio Setien

Online nursing degrees are college degrees in the field of healthcare and nursing that are obtained via the Internet. Online nursing degrees are great ways for registered nurses to further their careers without having to take a leave of absence from their jobs.

There are two main types of online nursing degrees.

The first is a bachelor's of science degree in nursing. This type of degree is for individuals who are already a registered nurse but who wish to further their nursing career. These degrees also require that the student participate in on-site lab rotations and clinicals. The rest of the course work can be completed entirely online.

The second type of degree is a masters degree. These degrees require that the student first have a bachelors degree in nursing and at least three years work experience in the nursing field.

While some online nursing degrees require some onsite work, this work can sometimes be completed at the healthcare environment that you are currently employed in, for example, the clinical rotation can be completed as part of your regular job. Many registered nurses pursue online nursing degrees to further their education. These degrees can be obtained in such specialties as healthcare management, human resources and business management.

These qualifications will allow nurses to compete for jobs in the administration side of healthcare. Nurses with a master's degree can become hospital administrators or nursing staff supervisors.

Most online degrees require at least two years of additional study. This time can be shortened if an individual has prior college credit to transfer or numerous years of relevant work history.

If you are interested in obtaining one of the online nursing degrees but you have not received your registered nurses degree as of yet, you can first obtain this degree through a vocational school in your area and then go on to further your career through the Internet.

How to Earn an Online Nursing Master Degree

Online Nursing Degree - How to Earn an Online Nursing Master Degree

There are many jobs in the nursing field that require a person to have a master degree. Earning an online nursing master degree is an option that many nurses are now taking advantage of when going back to school. All classes are conducted online which means that people do not have to attend classes in a classroom setting. This is much more convenient for those who have busy schedules. Assignments and readings are scheduled with plenty of time to get them completed. A nurse can work and go to school without having to lose time sitting in a classroom.

A typical online nursing master degree takes a year or two. The amount of time needed depends on the nurse's schedule and how many classes they choose to take in a semester. A student can also take summer classes which will help them finish sooner. Online class assignments can be completed at any time. This means if a person works a night shift, they can work on their assignments during the day. Since many nurses work different shifts, they can work on assignments when they have the time. In a traditional classroom environment, they would have to find the time to drive to class and then sit through classes two, three, or sometimes four days a week. For those whose work schedule is continually changing, this could pose a problem.

Many nurses go back to school to earn their online nursing master degree because they are looking for a job with regular hours and better pay. Nursing is a much needed job and there are more and more jobs opening up in administrative areas of nursing. In order to compete with other nurses, one must have the education to back up the skill level needed to supervise others and make sure that everything on the job is running smoothly. Having a master degree in nursing shows that a person is willing to learn new skills and can handle the workload. Earning a master degree will take some time and effort. But in the end, it is worth it because a person will qualify for better jobs, will be able to learn new skills, and will be able to go into areas of nursing that interest them. A degree online offers one the flexibility to working while attending school.

How to Earn an Online Nursing Degree

Online Nursing Degree - How to Earn an Online Nursing Degree

When nurses decide to go back to college, they have a few choices these days. Earning an online nursing degree is one of them. Instead of having to sit in a classroom and listen to lectures and participate in classroom discussions and group projects, a nurse can enroll in an online learning program that will teach them the same curriculum in the comfort of their own home. Learning online has given people the freedom to pursue advanced degrees while still working and living their lives. There will be fewer adjustments to make in a person's life when they are taking classes online. They can still be home for children, work their normal shifts, or enjoy the same hobbies they always have. An online degree will give any nurse an advantage in the workplace.

Nursing degree programs that are offered online include

  • Associate Degree in Nursing Online
  • Online LPN Program
  • Online LPN to RN
  • Online RN Degree
  • BSN Online
  • Online Nursing Master Degree

With an online nursing degree, a nurse can pursue other areas of nursing such as elderly care, forensic nursing, administration, teaching positions, and many more. With these options, a person may receive a bigger paycheck, more responsibility, and more challenges. But this is what many nurses are looking for and that is why they enroll in online degree programs. Online learning has become more popular because the programs cater to a nurse's busy schedule. Many nurses would like to try something new or add more skills to their resume. With an additional degree, a nurse will have the knowledge and the degree to obtain these positions. Many people are not happy in their present careers and would enjoy the chance to do something different and stay within the same field. An online nursing degree can do just that and much more.

Completing an online nursing degree program will take about a year or two. This is not a long time when a person has other responsibilities in their life. The courses can be arranged to fit around a person's schedule. There will be assignments to hand in and tests to take, but the time between the two is longer than in a classroom setting. Plus, a nurse will not have to make time to drive to the college and sit in a classroom. Many nurses work non-standard shifts in hospitals and other care facilities. An online nursing degree program still gives them the freedom to be available when they are on call. This is very important and the main reason why online programs are so popular. Getting an advanced degree should be special, not another burden.

How to Earn Your Online LPN Degree

Online Nursing Degree - How to Earn Your Online LPN Degree

Earning an online LPN degree is a great way to get additional training while still working. Nurses who earn their degrees online have to manage their time efficiently in order to get the work done on time. But for those who can juggle work, school, and other demands in life, an online nursing degree is something worth looking into. Once a person has an LPN degree, they will be eligible for promotions and other career moves. Going on to earn their RN degree is what many nurses end up doing in order to compete in the nursing field. There are many opportunities for those who are ambitious and who want to succeed in nursing. Having the proper degrees is one way to set them apart from the rest. Being able to list degrees on a resume will impress those who are looking to hire the best qualified people they can. Since more nursing jobs are opening up, employers are seeking people who have the knowledge as well as the experience.

When a person decides to return to school and get their degree online, they will be very pleased to know that they are the ones who get to decide when to study and when to take tests. Earning an online LPN degree means that a student has more flexibility then they would if they attended traditional classes. They will still be able to work, be able to study when they feel they are able, and they won’t have to sit in a classroom and listen to lectures or participate in group activities and discussions. Although this method of learning is appealing to many, there are those who just want the information and nothing more. An online learning program gives the person the information they need to earn their degree.

After earning an online LPN degree, a person can apply for other types of jobs in the nursing field, go on to earn another degree, such as an RN, BSN, or MSN, or ask for a raise. They will be able to put their knowledge to good use by helping others in need. An LPN has the opportunity to work in many different areas within the nursing field. An introduction to online nursing is not complete unless you do not invest your time wisely. First, determine what it is that you would like to do in nursing. Then, you can peruse the schools that offer that amount of learning degrees. Not all schools do offer the same things, yet those that offer comprehensive programs may be the ideal location to go to anyway. Once you determine what you would like to do as well as where you can go to get it, there is still more to understand.

For example, each school has coursework set up in various ways. Some will allow you to work solely from home to earn your degree. Deciding on an Online College for Nursing

Deciding on an Online College for Nursing

Online Nursing Degree : Some of the more popular online college for nursing programs include the University of Phoenix, Vanderbilt, Kaplan, and Indiana State. These colleges offer extensive online programs for nurses who are just entering the field to those who are going back to school for an advanced degree. Choosing one of these programs will ensure a solid education the one can earn while working and living their lives. These schools have students that are learning how to be nurses as well as those who are trying to get into administrative fields and teaching positions.

These schools offer an extensive program for those who are going back to school to earn their master degree in nursing. Deciding on an online college for nursing when earning a master degree can be difficult only because of the many schools that are offering programs. The University of Phoenix and Indiana State offer master degree programs that have many tracks to choose from. This can narrow down what a person wants to study and only focuses on the skills needed to perform in an administration or teaching role. RN and LPN degree programs are similar, but not as many tracks are offered.

At schools like Kaplan, a person can expect personalized service and counselors that can give valuable advice and answer questions when students have them. An online college for nursing should not only be a program where people learn from home, but also a program that caters to students and their needs. Just because a person is learning from home does not mean that they should not be able to talk with instructors and counselors whenever they need to. Instructors can be reached via email or by telephone. Being able to call someone when a person has a problem or is unclear about an assignment can help a person from becoming frustrated.

Online programs have come a long way from the way they were ten years ago. More sophisticated, these programs now treat online students as if they were in the classroom. Assignments are given with specific due dates which give people a time frame in which to complete them. A student can have discussions with instructors. At universities like the University of Phoenix, Kaplan University, Vanderbilt University, and Indiana State University, a student can expect to be treated with respect, learn new skills, and improve their lives with an advanced degree in nursing that will help in many ways.

Choosing an Online Nursing Course

Choosing an Online Nursing Course

Online Nursing Degree : When taking classes online, choosing online nursing courses can be overwhelming especially for students who are new to a program. There are a few steps a student can take to relieve some of the stress associated with deciding which classes to take, however. When entering a program, have a list of required courses handy so that a one does not miss the classes they will need to have when they graduate. Some programs offer elective classes, which mean that a student can choose classes that look interesting, though not necessary to graduate. This is where the confusion can begin for those who are unsure of which areas of nursing they are interested in.

Talking with an admissions counselor can oftentimes help a student decide which classes to take. The counselor will tell the student which classes are the most popular and which ones will be right for their area of nursing. Choosing an online nursing course when a student does not know which area of nursing they want to go into can be tricky, but sometimes talking with someone else can help to narrow down the options. If a person is leaning toward a particular area, a counselor can assist in pointing the student in the right direction. If after talking with a counselor and still not having made up one's mind about classes, a student should take their required classes and choose a class or two that sound interesting. This may end up being the area of nursing they are the most interested in since they liked the course being offered.

Choosing an online nursing course may be stressful at first, but as the semesters go by, a student will realize what they are most interested in and will choose course that reflect their interests. This is when classes are the most enjoyable. The student will get to decide what to study along with classes that are recommended. When a student is happy studying, they will score higher in the class and retain more information. This will make choosing future classes easier. For those who are returning to school, choosing courses should be easier since there are fewer to choose from as advanced programs are more focused and specific. A student returning to school will not have to worry about taking basic classes as they have already been taken. Students will choose tracks instead of courses many times. This means that the courses have already been chosen.

These tips will help a person find and chose the right program for them.

Decide on a program of study
For those who are in nursing, one should be looking at advancing a career, finding job opportunities that are challenging, and being able to cope during emergency situations. The final 12 graduate credits will be taken through Philadelphia University and will include three required courses and one elective. The MS program values and builds upon previous nurse-midwifery/midwifery education and practical experience. This program is available to midwives certified by the ACNM, as well as student midwives currently enrolled in ACNM-accredited educational programs.

The 21st-century midwife must be prepared to act as an administrator, teacher and advanced clinical practitioner. This program facilitates professional development in these areas through innovative interactive technologies. State-of-the-art communication technology coupled with the professional expertise of an accomplished and caring faculty will maximize your educational experience. Best of all, you will remain in your own community as you work toward completing your master’s degree in just 12 months. The program model focuses on graduate-level skills of inquiry and critical thinking and uses a distributive distance-learning approach where students interact asynchronously with each other and the faculty via computer.

At Philadelphia University, we have planned the program to accommodate the work demands of your clinical practice. The program involves extensive reading and participation in online discussions and learning activities. The richness and diversity of experience that each student brings to the discussions has been a source of inspiration for the faculty and adds to the rigor of the program. Faculty are experienced nurse-midwifery educators who are comfortable working with distance learners. Faculty and technical-assistance personnel are readily available to students.
