Get Your Nursing Degree Online!
The nursing profession has changed considerably since the days of white shoes, stethoscopes and a good bedside manner. Where once there was only one kind of nurse, the profession has become an alphabet soup of abbreviations such as LPN's, RN's and many others. Deciding what kind of nurse you'll be even effects your decision when attending an online university or going for financial aid.
Basically, nurses can best be categorized according to their industry licensure and any further specialized credentials. These categories often denote a particular degree level attained type of work environment, and even salary range. From there, it's a virtual alphabet soup of varieties, whether one wants to become an RN, LPN or something even a cruise nurse.
Critical to all this is certification. While Registered Nurses (RN's) don't need a specific kind of certification, you will need some certification to work in any magnet hospital or decent research facility. Certification means a nurse is an expert in a certain field, ranging from surgical to home health care. It's another important decision one must consider when entering the field.
The broadest category is the Registered Nurse (RN). They are loosely defined as advocates for the care of the sick and maintenance of their health. From there, an RN's responsibilities/powers are defined by each U.S. state's Nurse's Practicing Act (NPA). It takes a minimum of three years to get an RN diploma. The national average for salary is about $60,000.
Another key category is the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). They are often found working under the supervision of physicians in clinics and hospitals, or in private home health care. Education and training is vocational-based, hospital-based, or college-based, and can vary from 9 month to 3 years in time for certain specialties and require an associate degree in practical nursing. The average salary here is about $34,000.
Below the LPN is the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The Nursing Assistant still holds a high level of ability, but without qualification is unable to often perform some tasks due to issues of liability and legality. They provide the bulk of the grunt work in a hospital setting, depending again on the NPA. The CNA's salary is the widest ranging, usually starting at just short of $20,000 and into the 30's.
From there the nursing field diversifies into a number of different specialties, and can range anywhere from social work and cruise nurses to setting up their own offices as nurse practitioners. Salaries and certification can go into the $100,000 range. Naturally, there is some sort of certification that comes with the specialty, but that's a decision one can make after getting licensed by a state.

A nurse can also jump from one category to another, depending on their personal desires. Many health institutes encourage their nurses to attend nursing college online, rewarding them by paying their tuitions or salary increases upon graduation. No matter what, nursing with a degree on linehas become a broad field for anyone willing to put in the effort.

Your online training won't make you a stepchild; itwill be accepted exactly the same as a certification or degree earned at any traditional campus.
What to look for when choosing an accredited nursing online school
- When considering a nursing online registered school, here are some of the things to look for:
- A curriculum that combines both academic nursing science and clinical studies

- Courses that are approved by the NNEI
Think about your career path

You can begin at the bottom and train to be an LPN/LVN (Licensed Practical Nurse/ Licensed Vocational Nurse) and begin your career at the entry level. Or, you can select a college degree nursing online school and train to start as an RN (Registered Nurse) when you finish and receive your BSN (Bachelor of Science Nursing) degree. What To Look Out For In Online Nursing Degree Programs
Online Nursing Degree : What To Look Out For In Online Nursing Degree Programs by Adrian Daniels
If you are about to sign on the dotted line to enroll in an online nursing degree program, then you must read the following tips before you make the final decision.
It's good that you are about to embark on an exciting journey towards getting a great degree that is in hot demand by the market right now. However, you must make sure you have done all the necessary homework to ensure you are getting enrolled in the right course that's best suited for your specific set of requirements and circumstances.
With so many different degree programs from such a wide array of universities to choose from, how do you know which degree from which particular university is right for you?
Here are some starting tips you should take into careful consideration before choosing one to pursue...
Firstly, you need to "begin with the end in mind" and ask yourself what you would like to be doing in the long term. Will you be specializing in any particular area? If so, check if the degree you are considering can lead you to your eventual specialization. Does it help you meet the entry requirements?
Next you need to check on the clinical requirements for completing the course. The non-clinical work can all be done online, but for obvious reasons you must do your clinical work in person at some sort of medical facility. For this reason, you should check what kind of arrangements are in place for the clinical portion of your degree program. Where is it conducted? Is there an option that is near your place of residence? You would not want to choose the program if convenience was one of your primary factors, and then you end up having to travel a great distance for your clinical work, right?
One other thing to check first is the scheduling flexibility offered by the program. Do you get to choose specifically which course modules to take during each semester? Can you decide how many courses you wish to take, and can you increase or decrease the number every semester depending on your personal scheduling availability?
If you have a very unpredictable schedule, you will want to avoid any degree programs that require you to participate in certain online lessons at specific preset dates and times. What you want are those programs that let you take the lessons and complete the coursework at any time you want, so that you do not have set timings to follow and you can work at your own speed.
And the last tip here is a very important one -- make sure the university and degree are accredited! You do not want to spend a few years of your life pursuing a degree and then find out later that it is not recognized by the industry. Please don't just take the university's word for it, but check it out yourself. Many people have fallen prey to scams in the past and have wasted time and money on a "fake" degree, so don't let yourself be another victim.
To know what other important things you should look out for before deciding on the right course for you, go see the rest of the experts' advice at: online nursing degree programs

Nursing Degree Online
Nursing Degree Online by Elijah James
Did you know that if you want to become a nurse, you don't have to go to a school or hospital to earn your degree? You can actually earn a degree in nursing just by taking up an online course.
So how does it work? All you have to do is make sure you have access to a computer and an Internet connection. You need this to access your study plans and also to be able to receive and send your assignments to your respective teachers. You don't even have to set foot on a school campus of any kind.
Of course, this nursing degree online course is not the best thing for classes that involve you having to be in a clinic and trying things out for yourself. So this is best for all your non-clinical subjects. Non clinical subjects are done through the online classes and anything outside of those classes is fulfilled in a medical facility where it is most appropriate.
Now, like most classes, you will have a special classroom except this one is online. Most online classes are done from the schools own hosted website. Instructors post their lecture materials and assignments to the site and there is even a bulletin board that you can access so that you can get information from other students or check out announcements regarding your curriculum. You will also have times when you can chat with your instructors so you will need to be online so that you can get needed information.

The Cycle of a Progressive Career in Nursing
Nursing Degrees : The Cycle of a Progressive Career in Nursing by Brent McNutt
Nursing perhaps has the most variety of career options in the medical field. There could be various ways to progress in nursing and several more different ways to specialize. This is perhaps the reason why professional nurses are in high demand across nations, there is simply so much need for nursing services across different areas and there never seems to be enough to satisfy these needs. The variety also makes a professional nurse get into the line of work that best fits them; it is often just a matter of picking from a list of available options.
What is crucial is that a nurse makes his or her status officially professional by getting a license. This could be done by simply completing the necessary requirements like certifications and board exams under the government's regulatory commission. As soon as the necessary certification is met, then a bevy of highly attractive career options can and will follow.
Like all bachelor's degree course, professional nurses may choose to get into the educational setting. They may opt to trade in the wards for classrooms to contribute to preparing aspiring nurses for the demands of the profession. In selecting the educational structure nurses will follow an educational career path. This means that the progression begins with an instructors position and through time, experience, and further education leads to a department heads position, and finally a dean's position.
A professional nurse may also choose to progress through the traditional medical career path. Professional nurses start as volunteers to earn a spot as a staff nurse. In time a staff nurse progresses to a head nurses position where he or she assumes supervision of staff and volunteer nurses. In a professional nurse's movement towards a head nurses position certain certifications are required, certifications that prove refinement in certain skill sets like IV certifications.
Professional nurses may also opt to specialize in certain fields. This deviates from the typical career path of a certain nurse since instead of practicing general nursing the specialization allows the professional nurse to concentrate in one field alone. An example of this type of career path is when a professional nurse specializes in surgery and becomes a surgical nurse. This means that the nurse's primary function will be assisting Doctors and other medical professionals while operating or doing surgery. This of course requires fine tuned skills to accomplish that can only be brought about by experience and training.
Nurses also have the option to work in the private sector. Professional nurses may opt to work for a company and become a company nurse where his or her main concern is to maintain the wellness and health of employees. Also a nurse in the private sector could focus on caring for just one patient making him or her private nurse. Progression in the private sector however varies from company to company though it usually is similar to the corporate setting where a professional progresses as an entry level worker with minimum responsibilities to a supervisory position with a significantly higher amount of responsibilities.

LPN and LDN Nurse Entrance Test
Online Nursing Degree Articles : LPN and LDN Nurse Entrance Test by Dr Nancy Kimmel
Do Licensed Practical Nurses have to take an entrance test for nursing school? The answer is yes. Many Licensed Practical Nursing Schools require their prospective nursing students to take a general knowledge test prior to admission. This test is comprised of questions covering math and reading comprehension. This test is sometimes a stumbling block for students who decide to take the test without properly preparing themselves. On the Internet, prospective Licensed Practical Nursing students can find the tutorials that they will need to help them to pass the nursing entrance test. The profession of nursing is seeing a surge in the amount of people that are seeking to become a nurse. There is a high demand for Licensed Practical Nurses as well as Registered Nurses.
Texas is facing an unprecedented nursing shortage where the gap between supply and demand grows wider each year for the coming decade. (1) The Licensed Practical Nursing Test is just as challenging as the Registered Nurse Entrance Test. There are resources which provide the necessary preparation for the Licensed Practical Nurse Test for each Licensed Practical Nursing School across the country. Prospective Licensed Practical Nursing students do not always know where to turn to find the materials to achieve a passing score on the Nursing Entrance Test. Online materials are available for both tests and much more. The initial entrance test is the first hurdle that prospective LPNs/LDN's must maneuver through. If this test is completed with a high score then the student goes on to becoming a Licensed Degree Nurse. It is suggested when using online tests and tutorials to begin with the first of the tests in each section. Since each test increases in level of difficulty and reading comprehension it behooves the student to start at the beginning. The student should begin testing with the untimed option. Using the timed option on material that is foreign or new will only make the student feel inadequate. It is much better to use the untimed option so that the problems can be worked through at leisure, and the answers and explanations are thoroughly understood.
Prospective Licensed Practical and Licensed Degree Nurses are encouraged to take advantage of all of the resources offered, as they will be tested on similar knowledge once in the program. Just as there is a need for Registered Nurses there is also a need for Licensed Practical Nurses. Licensed Practical Nurses can find employment readily in hospitals, homecare, and medical office settings. Although the scope of practice is different from state to state, the Licensed Practical Nurse will always be under the auspices of the Registered Nurse and physician. The job description of the Licensed Practical Nurse includes taking patients vital signs, attending to wound care, (superficial to first degree decubitus ulcers, and two day post operative wound care, assisting patient with self care, emptying foley catheters, passing medication,( they cannot give I.V.Push medication), bathing patient, assisting in post operative exercise and or walking the patient, and engaging in reporting off to the Registered Nurse. While the scope of practice is limited for an Licensed Practical Nurse, it is interesting to note that the salary difference is within five to seven dollars less than a Registered Nurse.
Licensed Practical Nurses are entitled to the same benefits of tuition reimbursement as Registered Nurses. Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Degree Nurse is not as demanding a becoming a Registered Nurse, and the pay is not that much different. It is no wonder that more and more people are considering a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
